47th annual Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships
The glistening waters of Lake Wazeecha will resemble a dance floor when the best water skiers in Wisconsin compete at the 47th annual Wisconsin State Water Ski Show Championships.
The four-day championships will be from July 18-21, 2013 at Red Sand Beach at South Wood County Park near Wisconsin Rapids. Hosted by the Wisconsin Rapids Aqua Skiers, the championship is the largest ski show tournament in the world, with 28 teams being judged to find the best of the best.
Between 20,000 and 30,000 fans will be dazzled by the athleticism of the skiers. Skiers will flip, twist and spin over a jump. Barefoot skiers will tumble and jump. Swivel skiers can do 1,080-degree turns. Ballet lines up to 25 skiers will show their incredible artistry and precision. Pyramids, which require incredible teamwork and coordination with the driver, will soar five tiers high.
With its combination of speed and grace, show skiing is the most entertaining discipline in the sport. Virtually all aspects, including bare-footing, jumping, slalom, tricks and wakeboarding, are choreographed into one grand performance lasting up to 60 minutes.
Competitors are judged on execution, difficulty, spectator appeal, showmanship, flow, music, costuming, theme, boat driving, announcing, safety and overall performance.
Competition starts at 6:40 a.m. and will continue to about 6 p.m. daily. Food and refreshments will be available. Admission is free.
